This linocut was created in July and was presented at the Instituto de Arte Gráfica de Oaxaca as part of a collection called Nochixtlán. Nochixtlán is the name of the town where 12 teachers were murdered by Mexican Federal Police while protesting the privatization of the public school system. The image of protesting students and teachers being oppressed by police stands in contrast with the open armed woman in the background holding a flag and an open book. The background is based on the painting, La patria by Jorge González Camarena, which was used as the cover of text books in the late 60s and early 70s in Mexico.
